 ADMISSION INTO MBBS COURSE 2016 – 2017

 Dhaka National Medical College inviting the applications for admission into 1st year MBBS course in 23rd Batch for the session of 2016 – 2017. Admission shall be on merit basis and shall follow the same criteria as prescribed by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council.

 Free Studentship

Number of free studentship and number of siblings of the freedom fighter will be selected as Govt. rules. In this regards candidates must have to apply for free studentship & freedom fighters quota with valid documents.

 Selection Procedure

  • Admission test into MBBS course will be conducted by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.

  • Admission into this Medical College will be done as per rules & regulations of DGHS.

  • Candidates must apply for admission in a prescribed application form.

  • Application form for admission into this medical college can be collected during the office hour (00 am to 1.00 pm).

  • Filled-up application should be submitted along with relevant mentioned documents and the cost of form Tk. 1200/- or US$ 100/- (or equivalent local currency).

  • Meritorious & poor student’s quota will be filled up as per rules of DGHS.

  • Sibling of the freedom fighters will be selected as per decision of DGHS.

  • Siblings of freedom fighter must have to apply in a separate application form and must add necessary documents with the application for admission in that quota.

  • Once applied for freedom fighters quota cannot be changed to general quota or vice versa.

  • College authority will prepare a merit list of the candidates and the list will be hang in the college notice board in due time.

  • No candidate will be allowed to get admission after the stipulated date & time.

 Medical Fitness

Successful candidates will have to undergo medical test by a Medical Board constituted by the College & must be declared fit for final admission.

 Expenses of the Study

  • Name of the course: Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).

  • Basic qualification & prerequisite for entrance in MBBS Course:

  • HSC or equivalent with Science (Biology, Physics, Chemistry).

  • Candidate has to secure required grade point in the SSC and HSC examinations.

  • Student’s selection procedure for MBBS course: According to decision by the proper competent authority as per merit.

  • Medium of Instruction: English.

  • Duration: MBBS course comprises of 5 years, followed by logbook based rotatory internship for one year.

 Academic Course

Dhaka National Medical College offers 6 years MBBS course approved by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council, leading to MBBS degree of the University of Dhaka and one year internship training at Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital.

The goal of the college is to provide an excellent broad based education with a focus on professional development for the students to equip them with knowledge, skill and attitude necessary not only to address the priority health problems of the community but also to acquire a firm basis for future training and studies.

 The college is committed to ensure high academic standard by implementing a well designed curricula, utilizing modern and effective instructional methods and aids including information technology, providing the right environment for faculty development and by continuously monitoring and rigorously evaluation all the activities and systems.

 Course Offered & Affiliation

The college offers 5 years MBBS course approved by BM&DC leading to MBBS degree of the University of Dhaka. The College has been accorded permission of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh & is affiliated with the University of Dhaka and recognized by Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council & also enlisted in WHO Directory of medical institutions.

Goals & Objectives

The goal of the college is to produce competent committed caring and accountable doctors who will be able to lead the health care sector as leaders to full fill the growing need of the community.

 Our Campus

The campus of the college is located at 53/1, Johnson Road, Dhaka – 1100, in the heart of old part of the Dhaka City near Bahadur Shah Park and opposite to Dhaka Judges Court of the historical on a 2,308 Acre land.

 Many educational institutes like Jagannath University, Dhaka Collegiate School, Kabi Nazrul Islam Govt. College, Mahanagar Mohila College, St. Gregory School, Govt. Muslim High School, Banglabazar Govt. Girl’s School, Paukage School are around the college.

 The college campus has got two parts:

  1. Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital and Doctors residential quarters.

  2. Dhaka National Medical College building & students hostel.

 Hospital buildings

Seven storied old hospital building was built in 1982 and a six storied new building in 2009 with total 650 beds. The hospital has well equipped operation theater, laboratory for investigation, out-patient departments, doctors and nurses resident quarters.

 College building

At present 11 storied building with 14000 sqft. floor space in each floor. Total floor space 154000 sqft. with centrally air conditioned and 24 hours lift services. The college building has administrative sections, 8 departments, library, 5 lecture galleries, large examination hall, one conference room, one seminar room, one teachers lounge, male & female students common rooms. The departments in the college are: Department of Anatomy, Department of Physiology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Department of Community Medicine, Department of Forensic Medicine, Department of Microbiology, Department of Pathology, Teachers Room, Tutorial Room, Practical Laboratory and Museum. A separate fully air conditioned Anatomy Dissection Hall of 6,000 sqft. is also present in the department of Anatomy.

 Library

The library is located in the 6th floor of the academic building and has a collection of over 5000 bound Volume of text books, references and journals in various subjects and provides up to date information to the students & teachers. It has user – friendly access system. The library is provided with separate reading area for the students as well as teachers. The students can also borrow Textbooks for reading at college and home. The Library is also equipped with internet access.

 Clinical Teaching & Training

The Dhaka National Medical Institute Hospital is the designated teaching hospital of the college. It has a 650 bedded multidisciplinary hospital complex adjacent to the academic building.

 The other Govt. teaching hospitals are also used for the teaching & training purposes includes Chest Hospital, Cancer Hospital & Institute of Psychiatry & Infectious Diseases Hospital. Transport is provided to the students for this purpose.

 Following successful completion of First Professional MBBS examination, students are placed in different departments/units of the hospital for clinical training and ward – duties as per roster suggested in the BM&DC curriculum. Transport are provided to carry the students from the college to different primary healthcare centers and back as part of their clinical.

 Faculty

Academic Faculty in both College & Hospital now consists of 179 full – time members, blend of a distinguished body of academics with proven teaching & research excellence and younger professionals with varied experience.

 Academic Performance

The academic performance of the students of Dhaka National Medical College in different Professional Examinations under the University of Dhaka is highly satisfactory. A total number of 1188 Medical Students of 16 Batches passed Final MBBS Examination from the Dhaka National Medical College. Many of them completed post graduation degree in medical science. Now there working in home and abroad with fame.

 Student’s Welfare Committee

This committee is entrusted to look after the different academic & extra academic activities of the students. These include annual sports and cultural week, annual picnic & different literary competitions, publication of Annual Magazine etc and religious activities. This committee comprises of teachers and students of the college.

 Student’s Advisory Council

The members of this council are entrusted to advise the student’s on their individual collective problems related to academic & extra academic affairs. Any student may approach this council for advice. Each and every students is placed under this council in groups to be guided in their professional courses immediately after admission. Mainly this council guides the students regarding their academic studies and the matters relating to professional courses. This committee consists of teachers of this college.

 Disciplinary Committee

This comprises of members from Governing Body and teachers which looks after the disciplinary activities of teachers, students and staffs. Any sort of activities & incidents that are detrimental to the academic atmosphere of the college this committee is empowered to deal with it.

 Foreign Student

25% seats are available for foreign students. In this regard we follow the rules and regulations laid down by the University of Dhaka, BM&DC and the Directorate General of Health Services, Govt. of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.

 FOUR YEAR BDS COURSE STRUCTURE & INTERNSHIP

 BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT BDS COURSE

 Name of the course

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

 Objectives of BDS Course

To prepare a dental surgeon with required knowledge, skill and attitude to practice dental surgery to improve the oral & dental health in the community.

 Basic qualification prerequisite for entrance in BDS course

  • HSC or equivalent of science background (Biology, Physics, Chemistry).

  • Candidate has to secure required grade point in the SSC and HSC

  • Medium of instruction is English.

  • Duration of the course: BDS course comprises of 04 years followed by logbook based rotatory internship for one year. The course will be divided into four years and will consists of eight terms. The allocation of time for four years of academic studies shall be as follows:

 ACADEMIC SCHEME 

  • A term having 20 weeks for teaching will have at least 100 full working days and therefore approximately 600 hours of teaching time. On this basis each year will have approximately 1200 hours of teaching time.

  • Each subject must introduce card and its satisfactory completion by the student should be obligatory before being sent up for University Examination and the results of the term – ending card examination may be consulted for reference where required.

  • The seminar or Integrated Teaching System will b introduced from the beginning of the 1st year and it should be organized periodically, at the end of each system or topics.

University Examination 

  • All the four professional BDS examinations will start simultaneously, in the 1st week of February & August in each year.

  • Practical, Oral and Clinical examination for each group of Examiners will start as soon as possible after completion of the written examinations. The Oral, Practical/Clinical examination can be completed within 2 – 3 weeks and whole examination is completed within a period of 4 – 5 weeks.

  • A student who does not complete the card in a particular subject will not be allowed to appear in the University examination in that subject.

  • If a student does not pass all the subjects of any one BDS examination he/she will not be eligible to appear in any subject of the next higher BDS

  • Any student passing all the subjects of any BDS Examination & successfully completes one academic year will be allowed to sit for the next higher and subsequent BDS

  • A student who fails in second chance in a particular professional BDS examination will not be allowed to attend classes on higher class except 3rd year students, till he/she clears his failed subjects and is promoted to higher class.

  • Students who do not appear in particular subject or examination will be considered as failed in that subject or examination and will be dealt with accordingly.

  • Students passing in the regular BDS Examination will be eligible to obtain honors (75%) marks & place upto 10 in number in order of merit.

  • They should be two boards (4 examiners) during exam for each subject.

  • Total marks for University Exam (from 1st year to final year): 3500.

  • Pass marks for Team Examination: 60%.

  • Pass Marks for University Examinations: 60% in Theory, 60% Oral, 60% Clinical and 60% for Practical for each separately all universities.

 Total for four years = 208 weeks (4 years)

Of the 24 weeks allocated for each TERM, at least 20 weeks should be utilized for teaching. The last four weeks in a term could be utilized for Term examination and making up any losses due to official holidays during the term.
